Castiglione nasce come paese romano. Nel corso del Medioevo diviene possedimento dei Marchesi di Saluzzo, che ne erigono un'imponente fortezza quadrangolare sulla collina. Divenuto possedimento di diverse famiglie feudatari degli Aleramici, Castiglione passò, alla caduta del Marchese Gabriele di Saluzzo, alla Francia, che lo tenne fino al 1601 quando, con il Trattato di Lione, Castiglione divenne possedimento sabaudo nelle Langhe.

Da quel momento il paese rimase territorio piemontese dei Casa Savoia fino all'Unità d'Italia. In campo religioso appartenne alla diocesi di Alba, fin dalle origini; nel 1511 entrò a far parte della Diocesi di Saluzzo, passò quindi ad Asti ai tempi della riforma operata da Napoleone e, nel 1817, tornò nella diocesi albese. Il toponimo Falletto venne inserito in coda al nome nel 1589, quando la famiglia Falletti ne prese la signoria. -Castiglione was born as a Roman town. From that moment the town remained the Piedmontese territory of the House of Savoy until the unification of Italy. The toponym Falletto was inserted at the end of the name in 1589, when the Falletti family took over it.
